Moray Firth Amateur Radio Society ILLW 2020 22/23rd August 2020

This year we had to contend with COVID issues. Initially we did not expect access to be available at the Covesea Lighthouse site. However, we went ahead and registered with the IILW organisers and obtained a special event callsign GB0CSL (for Covesea Skerries Lighthouse), thanks to Ritchie, MM0TQH for organising that. A couple of weeks before the weekend I had a call to say we could access the site, but on reviewing the COVID risks it was decided that we could not in practice operate safely on site.

Thanks to OFCOM flexibility during the COVID period special event callsigns are permitted to operate offsite, so club members activated the callsign from their own stations.

The band conditions were not good however we managed 352 QSO’s working 43 countries and 16 stations that identified as Lighthouses/lightships. We used 2m FM, 17m CW, 20m SSB, 40m SSB and 80m SSB. Operators were: Willie MM0KKF, Ron GM4ILS and Paul GM8HWZ. The QSO’s can be seen on the GB0CSL QRZ page.
